You can get all the scientists in the world to produce all types of eco friendly products to try to save the world, but if we keep cutting down trees and vegetation, the eco system will have the last word.
According to WikiAnswers, a 1000 acres are deforested a day. This amount includes the acreage in the Brazils amazon rainforest, which, by the way, has long been a hot topic mostly because the amazon alone produces 30% of the Earths oxygen.
According to Wikipedia, "Between 1991 and 2000, the total area of forest lost in the Amazon rose from 415,000 to 587,000 km˛, an area twice the size of Portugal, with most of the lost forest becoming pasture for cattle.". That is quite a high number, and there should probably be a united-amazon-council that oversees its conservation. I do not believe that that type of responsibility should be left in the hands Brazil and the surrounding countries; neither do I believe that countries round the world should give a handout. What do you think?
Considering that 70% of the worlds oxygen is produced everywhere else perhaps we should be focusing more on planting trees and utilizing more alternative building technologies and paper recycling.
If the same amount of focus that is going into activism were directed on planting trees, promoting vegetation growth, and educating people of what can be done today, these issues may not even be of concern.
